Chinese Creative Poster Competition 2026
2026年南澳大利亚州第一届中文创意海报大赛
The Chinese Creative Poster Competition invites students to express their ideas, creativity, and learning through Chinese language and visual design. By combining Chinese characters with images and colour, students showcase their understanding of Chinese language, culture, and global perspectives in a creative and meaningful way.

2. THEME AND SUGGESTED TOPICS
Students are invited to design a Chinese poster based on the official competition theme. The poster should include Chinese language, creative visual design, and a clear connection to the chosen topic.

3. LANGUAGE CATEGORIES

Category 1 Chinese Second Language Learners
For non-native learners who are studying Chinese as a second language.
-
Category 2 Background Language Learners
For students who may speak Mandarin at home or have some background knowledge of Chinese, but are not necessarily
native speakers.

Category 3 First Language Learners of Chinese
For students who are native speakers of Chinese, or who have officially completed Year 1 or above in a Mandarin-speaking
country or region.

5. SUBMISSION CATEGORIES
Students may submit their poster in one of the following formats:

Traditional Hand-made Poster
Created by hand using traditional art materials. Chinese text must be handwritten.

Digital Poster Design
Created using digital design tools. Chinese text may be typed or digitally written.
6. SUBMISSION DEADLINE

7. SCHOOL ENTRY FEE

Member Schools: No submission fee

Non-member Schools: $10 registration fee per poster/student entry
8. POSTER SIZE
-
All posters must be A3 size, either portrait or landscape orientation.
-
A3 size: 297 mm × 420 mm or 420 mm × 297 mm.
9. REQUIRED POSTER ELEMENTS
Each poster must include:

A clear Chinese title that reflects the selected topic
-
Meaningful Chinese text related to the theme
-
Original visual artwork or design elements
-
A clear connection between the written Chinese content and the visual design
-
Evidence of the student’s own ideas, creativity and understanding
10. CHINESE CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
-
For first-language students, the minimum character requirement will be applied flexibly to suit the poster design.
-
Background-language students must include at least the minimum number of Chinese characters required for second-language students at the same year level.
Minimum Character Guidelines for Second Language Students
-
Primary Years: 5–20 characters
-
Middle Years: 20–40 characters
-
Senior Years: 40–60 characters
11. ORIGINALITY REQUIREMENT
-
All entries must be original works independently created by the student.
-
Submissions must not have been previously entered in, or adapted from, any other competition.
-
The content should genuinely reflect the student’s Chinese language ability, creativity, and design skills.
12. AI AND DIGITAL TOOL USE
Students may use digital tools for layout, drawing, editing and presentation purposes. However:

AI-generated content must not replace the student’s own original work.
-
The main ideas, Chinese language content, images and design decisions must be created by the student.
-
Entries that rely heavily on AI-generated artwork or text may be disqualified.
13. REQUIRED STUDENT INFORMATION
Student information must be included on the back of the hand-made poster or in the digital submission form, not on the front of the poster.

14. POSTER UPLOADING AND SHARING
Both hand-made and digital posters may be submitted by uploading a clear photo, scan, or digital file through the school’s designated submission link.
15. SUBMISSION LIMIT

Each student may submit one entry only.
-
There is no limit to the number of poster entries a school may submit.
16. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
-
Awards will be determined according to judging scores rather than a fixed number of winners.
-
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards may be granted to entries that meet the required score thresholds.
-
More than one student may receive the same award level within a category.
-
If no entry meets the required threshold for an award level, that award may not be granted.
-
Each language category, year level group and submission category will be judged separately where appropriate.
17. PRIZES

18. JUDGING CRITERIA
Each language category and year level group will be judged separately.
-
Chinese Language Accuracy (30%) Accurate Chinese characters, vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure. The writing should be clear, appropriate to the student’s language level, and easy to understand.
-
Creativity and Originality (25%) Original ideas, personal expression, imaginative interpretation of the topic, and evidence that the work is independently created by the student.
-
Visual Design and Composition (20%) Effective use of layout, colour, images, spacing, balance and readability. The poster should be visually engaging and well organised.
-
Theme Interpretation (15%) A clear and meaningful connection to the selected topic. The poster should show cultural understanding, personal reflection or thoughtful communication.
-
Overall Presentation and Completion (10%) Neatness, effort, attention to detail, completeness, and compliance with all competition requirements.
19. ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL RUBRIC
-
Excellent: Demonstrates highly accurate Chinese language use, strong originality, clear theme interpretation, and outstanding visual design. The poster is polished, thoughtful and engaging.
-
Strong: Shows accurate Chinese, effective design, clear ideas and a strong connection to the theme. The work is complete and well presented.
-
Developing: Shows some understanding of the theme and basic use of Chinese, but language accuracy, visual design or idea development may need further improvement.
-
Beginning: Shows limited Chinese language use, weak connection to the theme, or incomplete presentation. More development is needed in content, design and overall communication.
20. TIPS FOR A HIGH-QUALITY POSTER
Students are encouraged to:

Create a visually balanced layout
