RATIONALE

The OzChin Quiz Bowl for Chinese language students is a fun and engaging event that aims to foster intellectual curiosity and academic achievement. Covering topics related to the Chinese language and general knowledge, this quiz night encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. By participating in the OzChin Quiz Bowl, students have the opportunity to showcase their skills, learn new things, and build their confidence in a friendly and competitive environment.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The OZCHIN Quiz Bowl welcomes students in Years 7-12 from South Australian Public, Independent, Catholic, or Community schools with an interest in Chinese language and culture. The competition is designed for both Second Language Learners and Background Language Learners (students whose first language is not Chinese but who have a Chinese linguistic background).

  • Country school students are particularly encouraged to participate through ZOOM. Since the event does not include dinner or other services for online participants from country schools, student registration is complimentary. (Zoom information will be distributed to teachers after they register.)

PHOTO CONSENT

All participating school teachers, please ensure that students and parents are aware that all student participants will be automatically considered to have given consent for CLTASA to use photos and videos of them for promotional purposes by CLTASA and associated schools.

If a participating student's parent does not give photo consent, you must inform CLTASA in writing before the competition. This is to allow CLTASA to make special arrangements during the event to ensure those students are not included in any photography or video recording.

PRIZES

Certificates, trophies, medals, and awards will be presented to the top individual and team performers, or the top three, depending on the category.

ENTRY FEE

  • $15 per student (students of CLTASA member teachers), dinner included.

  • $30 per student (students of non-CLTASA member teachers), dinner included.
