Language Category Determination

CLTASA student activities, including but not limited to competitions, Excellence Award selections, and other related assessments, are organised, entered, and judged according to students’ designated language categories. Therefore, teachers, parents, and students must carefully check and accurately select the student’s appropriate language category when registering for or entering any relevant activity.

Given the complexity of Chinese language learners’ linguistic backgrounds, home language environments, cultural experiences, and learning histories, it may sometimes be difficult to determine the appropriate language category for certain students. If a teacher or registration coordinator has any questions when determining a student’s language category, they should contact CLTASA in a timely manner before submitting the registration or confirming the student’s eligibility, so that further clarification or assistance can be provided.

If a student participates in an activity under an incorrect language category, CLTASA reserves the right to cancel the student’s eligibility in accordance with the relevant rules. If, after results have been announced or awards have been presented, it is found that an award recipient’s language category does not meet the registration or judging requirements, CLTASA also reserves the right to withdraw, cancel, or amend the relevant award or result.

If the school, teacher, registration coordinator, student, or the student’s parent/guardian fails to provide truthful, accurate, and complete information relating to the student’s language category classification, including but not limited to the student’s home language background, learning history, and any other necessary information, or if the information provided is insufficient to respond to, clarify, or resolve reasonable concerns raised by CLTASA or other participants regarding the student’s language category classification, CLTASA reserves the right to make a final determination and take appropriate action regarding the student’s eligibility to participate, be assessed, or receive an award. Such action may include, but is not limited to, cancelling the student’s participation eligibility, cancelling the student’s assessment eligibility, withdrawing any award already granted, or amending the relevant assessment result.

CLTASA will make the final decision on language category classification and any related disputes in accordance with the activity rules and the circumstances of each case
